Here is a great kid’s room remodeling idea for easy storage and great use of space!
Lose a total of 4.25″ of space along a wall and gain tons of storage and a great new look!
This is so easy!
- Using Liquid Nails and brad nails, nail 1×4 and 1×6 boards along the wall. Just paint them first. (you might want to paint the wall black first, too)
- Paint your 2×4 studs first too and build a simple stud wall against the wood paneling you just installed.
- Extend window trim, electrical outlets, etc. to finish it off.
- Done – no base, no crown, no chair rail. Just cool and really easy.
I’m thinking that this would work for a girl’s room or a boy’s room. Just change the colors to taste. Thumbs up? Down?

This is a great look, but I can just see my kids trying to “climb the walls!”
Thanks for all the neat ideas. Have a great day!
I don’t know if I like this idea better, or that color of green on the wall – lol.

Definite “thumbs up!”
My Dad built my Mom a ‘pantry’ of sorts like this between studs in a laundry room of one of the houses we lived in when I was a kid. I had completly forgotten about it until I saw this picture. It was the perfect size for soup & veggie cans. Great storage solution!
Very cool. I like it better for a boy’s room than a girls room, but depending on the girl it could work quite well.
