Father’s Day is this weekend! How exciting! My crew always takes great care of me on Father’s Day. They really give me the Royal Treatment! I don’t mind.
Tools Are A Great Gift For ANY Occasion!
I think tools are perfect gifts. Weddings, Baby Showers, Christmas, Birthdays, Presidents Day, Labor Day, Cinco de Mayo, and of-course, Father’s Day. I have a few great tools picked out for you, along with the great projects you can use them for! And don’t worry about time running short OR getting something not exactly right. Amazon.com has thoughtfully solved the problem by offering gift cards that you can email or print!
Porter-Cable 390K Low Profile Random Orbit Sander
I know I’ve said this before, but I’m telling you, a good sander is a tool purchase you won’t regret! I have a DeWalt and recommend it highly, but the sale price on this Porter-Cable unit is a great deal. This sander is only $81.07 and it retails for $230.00. They also have a similar unit on sale for $39.00 but I like this one better because of the Low Profile Design.
When you’re trying to sand something, such as:
- Furniture to refinish
- Cabinetry to refinish
- New woodworking projects
- Window sills, jambs, and casing
- Custom Built-In Shelving Units
- Anything WOOD!
You’ll find that the low-profile (less height from sanding disk to the top of your hand) will make a huge difference at times. There are places I want to use my DeWalt and it won’t fit because it’s too tall. This low profile design would make a difference!
One other AWESOME AMAZING feature of this and many new orbital sanders, is the “hook-and-loop” sanding disks. Just another way of saying Velcro when it’s not actually the velcro brand. You just peel the disk off when it’s worn and replace it with a new one in no-time flat! And they totally stay in place while you sand. If I continue my pitch, you’ll have to call me Mr. Sandman.

Hitachi C10FCE2 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw
If you want trim work, this is the gift you should buy. A miter saw is the tool for:
- Crown Molding (for large crown you might need a 12″ saw)
- Chair Rails
- Baseboards
- Door and Window Casing
- Bead-Board (no sheet)
- Hardwood flooring!
This is a factory reconditioned unit on a great name brand. For just $99.00 this tool is a great deal! My current miter-saw is over ten years old, so you’ll get some payback!
Is it obvious how much I love tools. Tim the Tool-Man.

Blue By You Extension Cord
Actually it’s a Bosch Contractor Grade Extension Cord, but I like Blue By You better!
Here’s the scoop on extension cords:
- When you need another one, you REALLY need another one.
- When you’re working inside, you don’t want a 100′ cord. Too heavy. Too long.
- When you’re working with others (on a jobsite) a color other than orange or yellow helps keep your cord, your cord.
- The light-up ends are helpful and make you feel good inside. Like a Christmas tree light, but for working.

A 3-Way Cord Extension
I need another one of these myself! When you’re working with a drill, saw, and air compressor all at once, you sometimes need more outlets. That’s where the 3-way comes in. When I say to my helper (nowadays that’s my fourteen year old son), “go to the truck and get me the 3-way“, this is the tool I’m looking for.
For less than $10.00 you can get one of these little tools and make life a whole lot easier! That’s all I have to say about the 3-way.

You could print out a picture of the tool you THINK he wants and then with the gift card he can order exactly that because he’s so smart, or he coulr order something else, like a book, or a pair of socks!
These are some great gift ideas! Although, I do have to admit that I kinda want the miter saw for myself. 🙂

Ok, so the father of my children (also my sweet hubby) isn’t really into tools, or building stuff, but even he could use the three way extension cord as he IS into electronics – computers and such – and ALWAYS needs another extension cord!

It’s hard to believe that with all the tools my dad has amassed – he doesn’t have a nail gun!! So that’s what I’m getting him this year!
Growing up, dad was always easy to buy for because he could always use a new tool or two!
