Take a look at this! My wonderful wife, Kim, found it!
I thought it would be a funny story to hear what happens when your husband comes home and finds you painting your cabinets a bright color.
Well, I think this one would be even better! He comes home and you’re mad at it with the cordless drill punching holes in the cabinet doors!
But, you have to admit, the look is kind of cool. I think I know one blogger in particular who would like this one!
Let’s do this…everyone and their sister and mother give me a suggestion as to a great “drillbit design” for a cabinet door and I’ll do it! I’ll drill all the holes and then do a post on “how to paint your cabinets” with it. I’ll send the door to the creative soul who chose the winning pattern!
This is going to be fun…I finally get to bring out my tools! Tell your friends!
Update – After 24 hours of great ideas, there isn’t a clear winner yet! This whole thing was spur of the moment last night. I think what I’ll do is pick my three favorites (in addition to the Palm Tree), Photoshop up renditions of them, then put them up for a vote to decide the winner!
I have a smallish solid maple cabinet door that I’m going to use for this and we’re going to paint it very nice! I’ll even let the winner pick the color! This will be something you’ll want in your house! I’m going to keep this giveaway open for another few days to see what other great ideas we get….simple designs have a better chance!

I would love a palm tree pattern…hint, hint, hint!

I’d love to see a coffee cup pattern that looks like it has steam rising from the cup.
Michelle’s last blog post..Flip Notes Winners
Here’s a tricky one, but fun….a buffalo. It’s my hometown and I miss it.
How fun……a coffee cup is already taken so I’d like to see a shasta daisy 🙂
JanMarie’s last blog post..Gentlemen, start your engines!!
LOL…well seeing as your wife has hinted as to what she would like, I don’t think that we are going to have much influence 🙂 But If I were to drill holes in my cabinetry, I would do a chili pepper because that is my kitchen theme. (My hubby is Mexican after all!)

I’m not sure about design….I like the bird! I think a coffee mug with steam coming off in a fun pattern would be interesting.
I’m looking for inspiration photos for window and door trim. Can you point me in the right direction? I’ve done Google searches and come up just frustrated.
(did you get the email I sent you?)

Great Ideas! This IS going to be fun. I’m going to want to make them all!
Astrid – I did get an email from you…I thought I responded? Double check your in-box. You can email me again if you’d like! I’ve got some photos lined up for a window and door trim post but that might be a couple of weeks out yet.
KEEP THOSE GREAT IDEAS COMING!!!
Personally… I would do the bird, just like is pictured here. I like the knob used beneath it and everything!
I think another really neat design would be a fleur de lis. It could be positioned possibly in the center of the door or just below center.
What a neat post. I am all “a flutter” with ideas for my laundry room now! I love this idea SO much!
All the best!
I’m a teacup girl – you know, cup and saucer, not mug! :o)
When we moved into the house we are in currently, the previous owner had done this to their bathroom cupboard doors. They didn’t have an item, just a fancy design.
Can’t wait to see what you do!
Have fun!

What a fantastic idea. This has my wheels a spinning for my laundry room. Clotheslines on the door with laundry hanging. Going to have to draw it out and put it into my planning book. Love it! THANKS.

Hmmm….I never got the email. Rats. Now I’m having trouble locating your email address. This just isn’t my day!

oh my goodness….so much pressure. I can’t even think….hmm…can you do words? Like “family” on it? Oh, I’m getting technical. 🙂

Those are DRILLED HOLSE! I did not realize that until you pointed that out! I would be way too lazy for that. I think I might just use a stencil. Wait, I’m too lazy for that too. How about a stamp? Yes, a nice bird stamp.
I cannot wait to see what you come up with!

Holes. Not Holes.
The Nester’s last blog post..10 Minutes to a Room You’ll Love:: Part 4: The Kitchen
It does look interesting- not sure if I would drill holes in mine- but if I did it would probably be in a curly architectural type design- Kind of a like a French corbel- Thanks for sharing
I like the idea of having your handle somehow compliment the design, so what about a horseshoe (I know… too easy) with harness leather looped on as handles?

I LOVE THIS! I would do a fluer de lis!

i would totally heart a fleu de lis or some type of pretty brocade type pattern… on a really pretty cranberry door….

How about three simple flowers – tulips maybe – in a row on the bottom. Make them mostly similar, but one taller, one or two with a leaf.

How about a monogram? Or just a letter, like B perhaps?
Kimm at Reinvented’s last blog post..Containing Kid Clutter
I like the idea of a star, starfish, or a monogram! If you’re feeling really creative how about the outline of Nantucket Island?!! 🙂 It’s hubby and my “special place”!
Stacey @ The Blessed Nest’s last blog post..I Won!!
The monogram is a nice idea. How about different pieces of fruit? A couple of pears one laying on its side & one upright on a green door, or cherries on a red door or a cluster of grapes… OK I’ll stop.
I’d love to see a sheaf of wheat.
Tim and Kim, that door is totally cool! Love the color, and especially love the bird with the branch-styled handle.
I wouldn’t hesitate to drill holes in my cabinet doors, since I could always fill them with wood putty and paint over the holes. Change is good, nothing is permanent, yada yada.
A tall flamingo on a hot pink door would be pretty awesome, especially in your neck of the woods :o) And the idea of cabinet doors with breathing holes goes WAY back … like my great grandmother’s pie cabinet, with punched tin panels on the doors.
My teacher-brain kicked in on this idea, and I thought it would be cool to drill the alphabet (uppercase or lower) on a classroom cabinet door (or piece of wood that could be propped against a wall). The holes could be made the right size to hold colored pegboard pegs, which are a must-have math manipulative in most pre-K through first grade classrooms. It would be a fun standards-based activity center for language arts and math (colors, patterns, etc.), as well as excellent for developing fine motor skills and social skills (sharing, taking turns, etc.).
Thanks for sharing Kim’s blog link today! I spent an hour or more reading about your family adventures, and discovered our families have a lot in common (except, lol, Ray and I are feeling older by the hour and our kids are in college). Travel, on the other hand … nothing makes us happier, especially if we have enough time to live like the locals, do our own cooking, and explore in depth. Maybe we’ll bump into y’all on the road one of these days :o)

So many great ideas…I can’t keep up! I just know I’d slip up with that drill bit. I think I’d have to go with a stencil, a stamp, or…better yet, a Sharpie!
I’m thinking a damask pattern. That would be pretty difficult so not sure it could be done, but it would be interesting to try, huh???
I think your wife is brilliant! And I would like, well, a Willow tree!
I have a thing about letters for some reason. I would like an initial
on mine “S”
How about a fleur-de-lis.
Barbara’s last blog post..Mold Me
I think a “rooster” or a “pie” would be great for a country kitchen.
I also like the idea of words… maybe something simple and inspirational as “JOY” written on a cabinet door.
How about…. a poppy flower
or….a simple branch with a leaf
or….a cupcake
(i also like the coffee cup idea and the birdie). : )
Can you tell I’m not good at making decisions? : )
Very cute idea. I would love a simple outline of the Eiffel Tower for a kitchen with French accessories!
is it too late to enter? i LOVE this idea, especially with the matching hardware. i’d like to think i’d like (?) something whimsical like a mermaid or a silhouette, but, in reality, i’d actually do a monogram. booooring, but practical for the long term!

Love the bird, color is perfect natural egg color, and branch handle finishes it. What a show stopper! I was actually going to suggest the fluer de lis, but others beat me to it. As is the fluer de lis, I like other symbols that represent Christianity w/out being in your face…you know, conversation starters. So, I posted a web page that has all sorts of awesome designs that are “ancient” (don’t really qualify as ancient if you want to get technical) Christian designs that seem pretty simple…since I don’t have the drill in my hand! After clicking on the link, go to t-shirts and and you can scroll the designs. Thanks! Looking forward to seeing the winners’ picks.

How about an apple with a leaf on the stem on a bright red door?

Hi Tim,
Love it! Ok, if it were for my laundry room, I would say a cute basket or clothes pin design ( have an adorable picture a friend made if you want to see what I mean). For my soon-to-be remodeled-powder-room-and-wouldn’t-a-new-cabinet-from-Tim-look amazing….um….how about a heart-shaped nest? LOL!(inside joke) or, any nest would be fine.
For my (four) children’s bathroom that I truly can’t-stand-to-walk-in-because-it- is-so-depressing-and-can’t-decide-how-to-decorate….how about the words, “Clean Me”, “Brush”, or “Flush”??
Or, for my kitchen, I would say any Christian symbol like an ichtheus (sp), cross, crown, etc. Or, I like Jen’s idea of a “word” like ‘family’, ‘love’, ‘laugh’, ; ‘be intentional’, ‘smile’……..I can open my thesaurus if that would help me win….??!!!
Thanks for getting my creative (?) juices flowing.
Great post! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Sorry I’ve been MIA, it’s been kind of hectic. There are so many great ideas. I really like the rooster/apple idea….a country theme. Maybe a picnic basket.
Actually, how cool would it be to make a wash line for cabinets in a laundry room??
Michelle’s last blog post..We’re all sick….
Love the Eiffel Tower idea but if it were me I would do my favorite dog or a cat! Mine would have to be an Afghan Hound. Raised a few in my day and absolutely love the breed for their craziness and grace. I vote for an Afghan Hound outline. Be sure to include lots of long flowing hair!

What a cute idea! I didn’t read all the other comments but I think adding a branch for a bird sit on or a branch with a nest would be neat.
