Thanks to The Nester for allowing me the honor of a guest post at Nesting Place!
For all of you who just flew in from there…
Thank you so much for visiting! Please have a look around, and if I can help you with anything just let me know either by email, or in the comments!
Thanks for your great post over at Nest! Love your site. Good job.
Hi remodeling guy, I came over from Nesting Place and will be poking around…looks great so far!
I really enjoyed your post at Nesting Place! Your blog looks great so far, though I’ve not poked about everywhere. You have a lot of really creative and useful information tucked about around here! I will certainly make a habit of stopping through :0)
Here from the Nester. Will be subscribing as we are in the midst of a year long remodel. We are leaving the original four walls standing, but not too many others!
Tim, I just wanted to thank you again. I took your advice and started looking for natural travertine. I will admit that at first I thought, “There is no way we can afford travertine.” But I was wrong. I found a great place (www.buildirect.com) that sells all kinds of flooring, countertops, etc. and their prices are absolutely wonderful. Plus I found the flooring I was meant to have!
Actually…I do have a remodeling question/dilemma…. http://thelopsidedhouse.blogspot.com/2009/01/paint-or-stain-that-is-question.html
I’d appreciate any suggestions or advice!
I’ve got your site bookmarked now!

Nester just introduced me to you…I only met her a month ago…she still doesn’t know I exist. Okay, you have no idea the help I need. Home built in 1900. Wiring, plumbing need replacing. Need a heating system that works (cooling system extra bonus). Desparately want a mantel – even if over fake fireplace. Have one bath with original tub from 1955 (walls behind tub are soft-wall falling down outside of shower-mold). Single income, five children and adopting two brothers from another conitinent. Frozen…where to start??? Could use another bath upstairs above current one. Abt. 2100 sq. ft. Large bedrooms (3-all upstairs) so bath would come from part of one bedroom. Like practical, functional, good quality, nice looking, budget, love the magazines you posted about, clean lines, classic (less cleaning maintenance). Have LOTS of ideas, but no clue where to start. Example: Can pocket doors be built into weight-baring walls? My friends and sisters are DYING when they enter my home…”Just paint or do something!” But I don’t want to paint and then open walls and have to re-paint (oh but I do love color and light!). Do you want to take on my home? If so, I’ll gladly take photos and send your way.
Hi Remodeling Guy Tim!
Great post on the Nester’s site! You came at the right time for me! I love projects around the house, but am often intimidated about getting them going. (there’s a perfectionist lurking) My windows are in desperate need of trim! It seems like a simple enough project, and I would love your sage advice! I’ve worked with a miter saw before and am comfortable with a hammer/nail. I think I just need to jump in, but I’m caught up in the details (which we know are so important) like width of the molding, how to finish it at the bottom, etc.
Pictures can follow if you’re interested! I have a feeling you’ll be getting a lot of attention now that you’ve posted on Nester’s blog. Have a great day!

Just flew over from the nester. Can’t wait to check out your site. We are pretty much do it your selfers living in a 15 year old home we had built. I do a lot of the planning, carpentry and finish work myself, as my hubby travels a lot for work. I’ve gotten quite handy over the years. The kids are almost out the door and we have debated moving but I think with a few changes we should stay. The old ” I wish we had done this” list and up dates too. One biggy is an enclosed stairway that was meant to be open on the plan but we enclosed it because we wanted a book case there (Not built in) Now we want to open it but Yikes! it seems very daunting. Maybe I’ll get some ideas from your site. Thanks, Pam

I, too, came over from the Nester, and I pretty much LOVE your site. I love the little decorative changes, but I am REALLY into the building projects. I am thinking of closing in my covered patio to make a playroom. I love all your posts and thoughts. Keep it up!!
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY MY BLOG. GLAD NESTER HAD YOU OVER. LOVE YOUR BLOG AND LOOK FORWARD TO LEARNING MORE FROM YA! HUGS FROM MAINE http://sophie4me.blogspot.com/

I came from Nesting Place, and I have a question for you! I am thinking of adding trim below the chair rail in my dining room. The problem is we are trying to get ready to sell, and I don’t want to take a lot of time or money, especially in this market! But I do want to compete with area homes. Our home is only 2 years old, and I wondered if you’ve used the rectangle trim from a hardware store that is premade/plasticy, and you just stick/nail it on?? I know I’d have to paint it all with the wall, but have you seen or tried this? Is it expensive to use wood trim, or hard? Thanks!

i am so glad to have found you from the nesting place…we are taking on a pretty fun remodel project of my family’s 100 year old home. http://sweetpeaandbeans.blogspot.com/2009/01/our-house.html. we are trying to keep the integrity of the house and still make it our own. we’ve thought about finishing the attic space…but may have some issues with the rafters, although the roof will be replaced. we are also considering adding on. our biggest issue is making the most of a 1400 sq ft house with only one bathroom. any ideas or suggestions would be helpful…our contractor and architect are not in complete agreement about the scope of the project yet!

Hi Remodeling Guy!
I just flew in from the Nester and I’ve already sent a link to your blog to my husband. We have 2 major projects we need to tackle in our home, hopefully in an expensive yet nice way. The first is those stinking plastic shower/tub installs. Both bathrooms have them and both are cracked (one, maybe both causing leaks). We have about ZERO budget to address this issue (seriously). We would LOVE to tile the shower (in our bathroom) and possibly tile the wall of the tub (our girls’ bathroom) and install a real tub. What do you suggest? We have several handy men in our family who can help with this project, but I’m stuck for ideas to get the supplies in an afordable way.
Our second issue is our countertops. The kitchen and both bathrooms have ceramic tile counters. Installed by a diy’er who shouldn’t have done it himself. I can tolerate tile in bathrooms but in a kitchen? Its horrible! I’d love to replace the counters in all 3 rooms (again, in an afordable way!). I’m really contemplating the idea of concrete in the kitchen and then a pre-fab laminate counter in the bathrooms. What do you think? I’ve heard great things about the concrete.
Again, I love you work (what I’ve seen so far, so keep it coming) and I appreciate your help/ideas/advice!
Hello
I flew over from The Nester site.
I have tons of things that need help. If you are looking for challenges. I have a back porch that is brick, it is off the kitchen. I think it would make a great little room off the kitchen but not sure how to do it.
Would you like to see pictures?
I have a kids room that lacks storage….so I went to IKEA and bought 2 huge closets and as my girls grew so did the toys…now there room is a mess of akward furniture, clothes an dtoys.
We redid our basement, carpet, drywall, etc….it still is bit damp. What do I do to make it liveable??? I have 2 dehumidifers running.

Hi Tim,
I found you through The Nester. I absolutely love your blog. I love interior decorating and the challenge and excitement of remodeling possibilities! We are living in Sicily for a few months in a rental so will just enjoy reading blogs such as yours and NestingPlace and next time we head to the other side of the island I’m stocking up on inspiring magazines!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and positive encouragement with the rest of us 🙂

So excited to find you through the Nester!
I’m subscribing right now – we have a number of small to medium projects we’d like to do ourselves – here’s hoping I can get inspiration here – and lose the intimidation that has thus far held us back 🙂

Hi, Remodeling Guy! I, too, found you thru The Nester. Great post over there! I have a question for you – I want to replace the linoleum floor in my laundry room with tile. It’s a small room, about 6×7. Is tile that is 12″x12″ a good size to use? And what do you think about laying the tile in a pattern? or would simple grid be best in this size room? Thank you!
I saw your guest post on Nesting Place, and I felt like you were speaking to me! 🙂 In fact, I just did a huge long to-do post on my own blog, as an attempt to call myself out and make sure I do make some changes here this year at our lovely abode. Don’t expect this to be the last of me here at your fabulous blog! 🙂
Hi Remodeling Guy! I’m totally zipping by from The Nesting Place. Loved your guest post. Now, I’m off to poke around for a bit. Thanks for the inspiration. We’re in the remodel/sell/move boat right now!
Thanks for posting on The Nester. I’ve added red paint to my shopping list!
I have died and gone to heaven!!! We have a contract on a house, and if we buy it, I have a laundry list already. It has PROJECT written all over it. Take for example, the front porch has “country” spindles going across the top and tiny columns. Ugh! It’s just bad! I’d want to redo that ASAP. You had me at the red front door…my current door is Duron Cardinal Red – LOVE it and I’ll never be without my red door again.
One quick question tho…we are seriously considering painting the brick an off white. I LOVE white brick houses with black shutters and a red door. The current brick is an ugly brown. I mean, I really don’t like it. Do you know anything about painting brick houses that I should know before contacting a painter?
So glad you posted on Nester.

Hi! Oh, I am so excited to find you through awesome Nester! It will be so beneficial to have a guy’s perspective encouraging us too along the way. From cruising quickly through your blog, it looks like you have beautiful style and I can’t wait to copy you! Hope you don’t mind a couple thousand women singing your praises….!
I’ve got a red front door, but that’s about it for style. Please remember to show us what “manly tools” we will need for projects (beyond hot glue guns, stapler and spray paint of course) and maybe tutorials in how to use them? Please? 🙂
Welcome to the family.
I saw your post on the Netsrer’s blog and I am so excited. I love little projects around the house, but I hate paying other people to do them. I am really wanting to add molding / beadboard, trim work, etc. I have a lot of curved corners and angles in my house, so I have been too afraid to start any molding work. Anyway, I am adding you to my faves so I can keep up with you.
Thank you,
Stacy

You. are. awesome. I put you on google reader this morning and just barely read through your whole blog! I love your enthusiasm and encouragment. I have a feeling you’re about to get a lot of attention really soon. I can’t wait to see what you have for us in the future. And as soon as my email is working properly again, I’ll email you about how to build a custom bed with storage. We have three kids in a 1,036 sq ft house and I need all the storage space I can invent!
